Type R FK2 - Rear Seat Removal

Post by FT_86_SM_GP » Sat Jan 13, 2018 7:53 pm

I had to remove my rear seats recently to clean up a mess and start my FK2 diet.

(Funny story on the mess - caused by the wonderful sta-soft air freshener process, ie. You know when you leave a Sta-Soft refiller under the rear seat -
Not realising when you drop the FK2 rear seats down, it goes alll the way down and wipes out everything underneat the seat)

Thought I would document a quick process on removing the rear seats.

NB. There may be other ways / easier ways in doing this,

Honda Civic Type R FK2 Rear Seat Removal DIY:

Performed on 2017 Civic Type R FK2 (RHD vehicle) – South Africa

Tools required:
1. 14inch socket
2. Wrench
3. Optional (small Plier / small screw driver)

Estimated time +-15mins
Weight saving: ?

Steps:
1. Unclip rear seats from both the bottom and top latches

2. Unclip rear inner panel / boot lining

3. Large rear seat (Drivers side on RHD vehicle):
Remove 3x 14inch bolts
Unclip seatbelt wire/cable
You are now able to remove the seat

4. Small rear seat (Passenger side on RHD vehicle):
Remove 2x 14 inch bolts
Remove seatbelt spring (with pliers or screw driver).
You are now able to remove the seat

I am not sure as yet, will try to get a scale tomorrow and get an estimate,
From carrying them, I assume they would be around 10 - 15kg due to the metal in them.

Making use of a partially accurate Bathroom scale, it seems to weigh approx. 30kg.
The seats have more metal inside them, than I imagined.

Even with a 10% haircut on either side for accuracy (Range between 27kg to 33kg),
I think this quick (15min) weight mod may be benefit on the track in combitionation with other weight mods (lighter wheels / lighter exhaust).

I tried to remove the Jack / Tools etc, but then realised that the car doesnt come with any lol,
Only a gel kit for the run flat tyres.

Hey man.
Ive started a thread on any and all FK2 weights and so forth.

Please could you confirm what section of the rear seat you weighed?
Im assuming it was the larger of the two?

Here is the link to the thread. Can post as you go and we can update all in one list as per the FN2 list we started.

Sure,
I tried weighing both seats together (+-30kg) - it isnt accurate but a decent ball park figure.
I will need to get access to a decent / industrial scale or try and use the scales at Zwartkops at my next outing to provide more accurate data.

Thanks
